fix journalism a conversation about journalism’s future

The list: fix journalism

Since I got my planner I’ve found it useful to list things out in order to cross them off and feel accomplished. I can chalk up my recent 3.5 semester GPA to the planner. I thought it might be a fun (though slightly depressing) exercise to list off things that we want to do/need to do to fix journalism. At the least it’s a good way to sum up the problems. I encourage anyone to add to the last or cross things off. This is also a generalized list:

  • Bad economy leading to less money. Business model flaw?
  • Disparate learning curves online
  • Carmudgeons in the news room
  • Lack of adaptation to new processes
  • Lack of adaptation to new thinking
  • Competition with bloggers and citizen journalists
  • Loss of connection with community
  • Loss of credibility in political and issues coverage

What else needs to be fixed?
