Proof that the youth are revolting
I love that album.
Here’s a reader (I hope this isn’t Jake or some other faculty member) proving everything we’ve ever said about political reporting.

This article accomplishes nothing other that to report that Sarah Palin made a speech in Carson City and that there was a protesting presence.Just because Palin’s speeches thus far are starved for meaningful content does not mean that the reporting has to be.
Wouldn’t this article, if it was intended to inform on a meaningful level, mention what Palin did NOT say, what agendas she is know to support/oppose that are good/bad for young Nevadans or Nevadans in general? Furthermore, who are Dean Heller and Brian Krolicki other than Nevada politicians? What do they support? Why do they support Palin? And many more potential questions of value in the same vein.
This quality of reporting is not good enough for the Sagebrush. You can do better! Think critically and be willing to consider more that what is just seen and heard. This qualifies as a dis-service to your peers.
and Jessica, she is not scary, she is down right terrifying. Remember the last charismatic governor that took the oval office? …..Bush…

I tend to agree with this person in either case.
This is a problem with the web. The difference between breaking news “this is what you missed” 20 minutes after the speech and analytic news “this is what it means.” I think you need both for the different kinds of readers “Stop being biased!” and this person. And also just to cover your bases.
I found that a lot of the coverage I read of the Palin visit was superficial, so the Sagebrush isn’t alone. The best coverage I read was here:

Ironically it came from a wire service.
I also didn’t hate this story, http://news.rgj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=200880913031, but felt like it missed the national element.
What I like about this article is that it puts Nevada, and Palin’s visit, into a national context. It tells me why Nevada matters and why it matters that Carson City was Palin’s first solo visit.
Maybe local news sources get lost their locality, and assume Nevadans know everything about their state’s role in the national election?
